The Melvin C. Dye Memorial was added in the summer of 2006. Melvin Dye was the only soldier from Monroe County to be listed as MIA from the Vietnam War. The plaque describes his military history and gives some of the details of what happened on that fateful day on Feburary 19, 1968 when his Huey helicopter was shot down near Dak Sut, Laos.
