HE WAS A VIETNAM VET

HE WAS A VIETNAM VET, A LITTLE DOWN ON HIS LUCK.

AS HE SAT ON THE CORNER WITH HIS DOG AND HIS RUCK.

HE HELD A SIGN THAT SAID, "CAN YOU LEND A HAND,

TO AN OLD SOLDIER LIVING ON THE LAND?"

ME AND MY DOG HAVEN'T ATE FOR A WHILE,

AND I CAN'T GIVE ANYTHING IN RETURN EXCEPT A SMILE.

BUT IF YOU COULD GIVE A DOLLAR OR TWO,

I WOULD BE TRULY GRATEFUL, ALONG WITH MY DOG BLUE.

AS I SAT AT THE CORNER IN THE SAFETY OF MY CAR,

I GAVE HIM A FATEFUL LOOK FROM AFAR.

I DEBATED WHETHER TO HELP OR JUST DRIVE AWAY.

BUT THAN I THOUGH, THAT COULD BE ME SOME DAY.

SO I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND HANDED HIM A SAW BUCK.

AND TOLD HIM I KNEW HOW IT FELT TO BE DOWN ON ONE'S LUCK.

HE WAS EVER SO GRATEFUL AND NOT AT ALL RUDE,

HE THANKED ME AND SAID, "NOW I CAN BUY SOME DOG FOOD."

HE PACKED UP WHAT LITTLE HE HELD IN HIS POSSESSION,

AND START TO HEAD DOWN THE ROAD TO THE NEXT DESTINATION.

AS I STARTED TO DRIVE AWAY,

HE TURNED, AND I HEARD HIM SAY,

"THANKS FOR HELPING A BROKEN DOWN SOLDIER AND HIS DOG BLUE.

YOU ARE TRULY AND ANGEL AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU."
